Steffen Greisiger grew up at the Baltic Sea. As if trying to break the waves, he already played the piano vigorously at the age of 10 and broke his first - string.
He stayed very much attached to this string because after a short excursion into the world of fine arts, he started out studying classical piano and improvisation at the University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig, only to let legend Richie Beirach take over to let him into the secrets of jazz piano playing. Still not having had his fill of academic education, he completed it by gaining a postgraduate degree in film music composition at the The Film and Television University (HFF) “Konrad Wolf”.
His composition portfolio so far consists of works for radio drama (public broadcasting such as ORB and DR Kultur) and theatre such as the Centraltheater Leipzig and Landesbühnen-Sachsen. Many of the films he’s composed the music for have been shown at national and international festivals and have won various awards.
In 2011, Steffen has received the JOHN WILLIAMS AWARD for FILM SCORING at the LONG ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL, USA.
